Black Mountain Montessori was founded as a non-profit school in 2003 by parents who sought a creative, active learning environment for their young children.
At SVMS we believe that excellent education is built around nurturing and supporting the whole child. As a Montessori school, we understand that children really learn more by touching, seeing, smelling, tasting, and exploring, than by just listening. Our developmentally appropriate approach has been designed to fit each individual child, instead of making the child fit the program.
Our school consists of an elementary program of 6-12 year olds and a preschool program for ages 3-6. Our classrooms are communities in which every member has a part. Our model of multi-age classrooms allows every child to work at their own pace, so academic differences don’t “stick out” as much as they do in a single age classroom.
